11th of September, 1984. Something that had never been seen on a football field happened 20km from Arouca. It wasn’t a football match, but it did have a ball and it ran on wheels.

In 1984, in order to raise funds for a local association, a bunch of people got together to do something that had never before been done in Portugal; a game of Motoball. We tell the story of the game that took place on the 11th of September, 1984 in Vila Viçosa, Arouca.

It involved a motorcycling champion, the president of the association and a handful of young men who took on the challenge of playing a kind of football… on the backs of motorbikes.

That was in 1984. These are our four interviewees today, 33 years later. .

It was via a blog “Tertúlia Alvinegra” that we found the necessary clues to begin this episode.

The story was told by journalist Cláudia Oliveira in the pages of the newspaper O Jogo, in the edition of 10th September.
